Leagues Competitions
Expand Help/Faq

Quick Tips

  • Create or join up to FIVE public or private mini-leagues of 20, invite and play against friends, colleagues and/or relatives;
  • You'll play 'head-to-head' across the entire EPL Season, from game weeks 1-38, and receive 3 points for a win in your league (or 1 point for a draw);
  • On initial team entry, be sure to field a complete team of 15 players prior to the next upcoming game week's lockout in order to join and remain in your league/s;
  • Link your Facebook and/or Twitter accounts to play against all of your Facebook/Twitter contacts in your very own, 'all-in' Facebook & Twitter Leagues!

The Head-to-Head Leagues competition in detail

  • You can create or join, and be a part of up to FIVE private or public mini-leagues with your single team entry. Your team will be entered in at least one private or public mini-league, where you'll compete 'head-to-head' against friends and relatives, or a small group of other participants in the competition.
  • Your league will have its own "fixture", where your team is matched up against other teams in that league each game week.
  • You'll score a WIN and 3 points if you get a higher fantasy score than the team you "play" against (or 1 point for a draw). Your league ladder ranks your team based on your win/loss record and points difference.
  • The leagues head-to-head competitions get under way from game week 1. Everyone in the league plays against each other twice throughout the Season up until the last game week 38.
  • All 5 leagues that you may join will have their own fixture.
  • Through the unique "Managers Box" feature as part of your Activity Feed, you'll be able to communicate with your league competitors live.

IMPORTANT - Finalising and confirming League entry & incomplete Leagues

  • Teams are entered in leagues on a provisional basis. Leagues of 20 teams will be formed starting at the game week 1 lockout and each game week thereafter.
  • Your team must contain a complete list of 15 players at the upcoming game week's lockout in order to remain in your league. Any incomplete teams at the time of lockout will be REMOVED from their league without notice and replaced permanently (applies to private and public leagues).
  • If you don't have anyone else in your league OR your league has less than 20 teams in it prior to the start of any game week, then it will be merged with another, or filled with random teams and finalised. Anyone already in your league will remain there.
  • If joining the game after game week 1, your team will still be a part of a league for the remainder of the Season, however you won't get the opportunity to play twice against every other team in your league.
  • You can leave/change between leagues at any time until your league's first lockout. Once leagues are finalised, you can no longer change, create or join new leagues.

Public Leagues

  • Creating a public league will allow you to invite anyone you like to your league.
  • Anyone who joins your league or obtains your unique league code will also have the ability to join and invite others to this league.
  • If you selected to join a public league, your entry will be placed in one automatically, at the completion of the next upcoming game week, with publishing of results.

Private Leagues

  • If you create a private league, you'll be the only one who can invite others to this league (via the League page).
  • As 'Administrator', you'll also have the ability to REMOVE teams from your league.
  • Anyone joining a Private league is not able to invite others via the league page.

  • When using the automated league invite form on your league page to send invitations, your friends/relatives will be provided with a direct link to the registration page, and will be added to your league automatically upon successful registration.

Setup your Facebook and Twitter leagues!

  • If you have a Facebook and/or Twitter account, you can now link it to your Goal.com Fantasy EPL entry.
  • In addition to all the benefits (unified login with your Facebook/Twitter credentials, sharing of data to your wall/followers, etc), you'll be able to setup your very own Facebook and/or Twitter leagues, which are in addition to your maximum 5 regular head-to-head leagues!
  • On linking your account, Goal.com Fantasy EPL will automatically setup your 'all in' Facebook and/or Twitter league.
  • You'll be ranked based on overall points against any of your Facebook/Twitter contacts who also play Goal.com Fantasy EPL and have linked their accounts.
  • In addition, you can automatically invite any of those not playing with a simple wall post or tweet directly from Goal.com Fantasy EPL - or invite them to one of your head-to-head leagues.
Leagues FAQs

Q: How I do create a league where I can compete against my friends? A: You can create a new league from your League page. After accessing your Leagues page, you can click on the 'Create/Join' button to create a new league, or join one that you've been invited to.

Q: How do I enter a new public league? A: To enter a new public league, you will need to create one. In your Leagues page, simply click on the 'Create/Join' button to create a new league. That league will then be merged with other teams after the publishing of the next game week's stats.

Q: How do I leave a league? A: In your Leagues page, simply click on the 'leave' button to leave a league. Once your league has been finalised, you will not be able to leave that league. Please note that you must be in at least one league.

Q: I just joined. Why wasn't I added to a league, and where is the option to create one? A: Everyone who signs up to the Goal.com Fantasy EPL competition will be a part of a league. Look for the 'League' link and button in the game menu bar on the left to access your league.

Q: I've found out that all of my friends are in another league. How do I swap leagues so I can play against them? Can you move my team for me? A: If you've been invited into a league by email, then please follow the prompts in the email to join that league. If you have been provided specific league code, then simply click on the 'Create/Join' button and enter the code into the box provided. If you want to leave the league you are currently in, then click on the 'Leave' button and enter the code in the box provided. Please note, if your league was formed prior to the last game week, then it would have been finalised and you can no longer change, create or join new leagues.

Q: Can I change the name of the league that I created? A: Your league name can only be changed prior to your league's first lockout, when your league is finalised and confirmed.

Q: The league that I was in is now different, or its name changed... Why? A: We may add teams or merge leagues where they don't attract enough competitors. All care will be taken to ensure that all original teams that you had in your league will still be there, in addition to new ones. Your league name may therefore change based on these movements.

Q: Why have people in my league been replaced with other random teams? A: Leagues are merged at the end of each game week. Once a league is merged, no further changes can be made to that league and you can no longer change, create or join new leagues. Any team/s in your league that did not have a complete team selected prior to the start of the last game week are replaced with other teams.

Q: Why have I been removed from my league? And why can't I rejoin it? A: If you did not have a complete team selected prior to the start of the last game week, then your team would have been replaced with another random, complete team. As leagues are finalised each game week, you can no longer join that league. Alternatively, if you were entered in a Private league, the league's creator may have removed your team before the league was finalised.

Q: Why can't I join a new league? A: Leagues are merged and finalised at the end of each game week. Once a league is finalised, you can no longer change, create or join new leagues.

Q: Why can't I invite people into my league? A: If you have been invited into a Private League, then only the league's creator has the ability to invite more people into that league from their Leagues page.

Q: Can I remove people from my league? A: If you were the Private League creator, you will have the option to remove people from your league.

Q: My friend wants to join my league but can't, why? A: If your league was created before the last game week, then it would have been finalised and unfortunately no further people can enter. If your league has yet to be finalised, then please check that you have provided the correct league code to the person you want to join your league, or that you have entered the correct email address in the invite box in your Leagues page.

Q: It says I can be in up to 5 different leagues, why can't I join any more leagues? A: You can only join up to 5 different leagues prior to the start of the next game week (after registering). Once your league is finalised at the end of the game week, you can no longer change, create or join new leagues.

Selecting your team
Expand Help/Faq

Quick Tips

  • Select a complete team of 15 players;
  • You must select your squad based on the player limits for each of the FOUR positions (2 x Goalkeepers, 5 x Defenders, 5 x Midfielders, 3 x Forwards);
  • You'll need to select your team within the £100,000,000 salary cap.

Select your complete team

  • You must select a FULL team of 15 players before the beginning of the next upcoming game week in order to score points.
  • You'll not score any points if your team is incomplete and you'll not be entered in the public and private league games.
  • All players are available to all participants.
  • Note that some teams will have 'byes' or not play for various reasons in some game weeks - you'll not score points in that particular game week from those players. Other teams will be scheduled to play twice - you'll receive the points from ALL of their performances in any given game week.
  • Your team will comprise of a starting line-up of 11 players and a bench of 4 players. Once you've entered your team, you'll be able to make transfers, substitutions and set your preferred starting formation.

Selection restrictions

  • Every player from each of the 20 teams is available for selection. The only selection restrictions are:

    3 x Forwards

  • These restrictions are automatically enforced so that they cannot be broken, and your selected team will always be valid.
  • You'll just need to make sure that you've selected and entered a complete squad.
Selecting your team FAQs

Q: How many players do I have to start with, and do I need to have that exact number? A: You MUST select 15 players in order to enter the Goal.com Fantasy EPL competition. Q: What if I can't find a player in the game? A: You can use to the search box at the top right of the screen on any page to check whether the player is in the game. If you can't find them, please contact us and let us know.

Substitutions

  • Click the button to substitute the desired player OUT of your starting 11. Then, select a highlighted replacement from the substitutes, in the matching position only, to complete your substitution.

Transfers (Trades)

  • You can make unlimited transfers on your initial team entry. Your team will be locked in and entered at the start of the next upcoming game week after you joined.
  • You'll then be able to transfer up to a maximum of TWO players after the conclusion of each game week, with a total of 40 transfers available for the entire Season.
  • It's entirely your decision as to when and how you use them.
  • Transfers can be reversed right up until the lockout time each game week.
  • Trading periods will generally be open for the entire week, up until the start of the next game week's matches.

Captain & Vice Captain

  • Your captain scores double points. You should also select a vice captain, who will score double points ONLY if your captain is a late withdrawal or doesn't play for any reason.
  • You can change your captain and vice captain as often as you like prior to the start of each game week.

YOUR BENCH

  • Where available based on the selected formation, your Substitutes (player bench) act as automatic emergencies, and will automatically have their score added (as long as they score greater than 0) to replace a player in your Starting 11 who doesn't play and receives a score of 0 - in their matching position only.
  • If you have 2 or 3 available substitutes in a particular position, the lowest scoring will be used (greater than 0). A maximum of one player will be used as emergency per position.
  • You'll need to set your team formation strategically to ensure you have your best Starting 11 on the field. You'll NOT have any Substitutes (and Emergencies) in some positions, depending on the selected formation.

"Zero" scoring players

  • Players who actually play in a match AND score a 0 for any reason, will NOT be replaced by an emergency. Their 0 score will also have an effect on their value, being recorded as having played a game.

team & player value

  • Player pricing will also play a part in team selection and trading strategy, and your overall team value.
  • Each player's price will vary based on their most current performance from game week to game week. A rolling average is used to determine how a player's value changes and they must have played at least 3 matches in order for their value to increase or decrease.
  • Your team value is determined based on the overall value of your selected players, plus any leftover amount in your salary cap.
Team editing & trades FAQs

Q: Why do some teams seem to have a larger salary cap/team worth than I do? What is the salary cap? A: Due to the variations in player prices each game week, some teams rise in value, and sometimes it appears that they're over the salary cap. Every team starts with exactly the same salary cap value (£100,000,000).

Q: I have selected a player who has since become injured or dropped from the team. Can I replace him? A: You can modify your line-ups from your substitutes list at any time while a game week is NOT in progress. You'll also have a total of 2 trades available to you after each game week has concluded, with a total of 40 trades allowed for the Season.

Q: In the real game, player X has played as a defender in the last 3 game weeks of the real competition, yet you have him listed as a midfielder. Why? Can he be moved? A: Player positions were determined based on the position/s that each player has played in most frequently in the past. Players are locked in their positions at the beginning of the competition and no movement or changes will be made, in order to keep the competition fair and equal throughout.

Q: A player in my team scored negative points. Is my emergency eligible to replace their score? A: Negative scores are counted as normal towards your team total. Negative scores are also doubled if a player that scores in the negative was selected as your Captain/Vice Captain.

Q: Why didn't my emergency player's points get added to my team? A: Emergency players can replace the score of a non-playing player in your team, in matching positions only, where selected in your team. If a player plays in a match AND scores a 0 for any reason, they will not be replaced.

Q: How often do player's values change? A: In order for player values to change, a player must have played at least 3 matches. Therefore you will see the first player price changes after the first 3 game weeks of play and weekly thereafter.

Q: If a player in my team does not play, does their value change? A: players that don't play do not have their value change. A player must play in order for their value to change.

Q: What is the formula used to determine a player's change in value? A: We do not provide the specific player pricing formula, however it takes a rolling average from the last 3 games that a player has played. They must have scored points in at least 3 games in order for their value to change. This is then compared to their Season average from last year and previous performances (upon which the initial price was based on), in order to work out the change.

Point Scoring
Expand Help/Faq

Quick Tips

  • You'll score points based on actual player performances from your selected starting 11 line-up and any emergencies if required;
  • You receive double points from your Captain (or vice captain if your captain doesn’t play).

How you'll score points

  • Your Goal.com Fantasy EPL squad is awarded points based on the real performances of the real players in each game, throughout the 38 game week EPL Season.
  • Points scored by your team each game week are based on the performance of the starting line-up of your 11 players for each game week.
  • Your 4 Substitutes do not add their points towards your team total, however where available (based on the selected formation), your Substitutes act as automatic emergencies and will automatically have their score added (as long as they score greater than 0) to replace a player in your Starting 11 who doesn't play and receives a score of 0 - in their matching position only.

Emergency player scoring

  • Substitutes will replace any non-starting player in matching positions only.
  • If you have 2 or 3 available substitutes in a particular position, the lowest scoring will be used. A maximum of one player will be used as emergency per position.
  • If you have a 0 scoring player in a certain position and don't have a substitute in that position, you'll not score any points for that player..
  • Players who actually play in a match AND score a 0 for any reason, will NOT be replaced by an emergency. Their 0 score will also have an effect on their value, being recorded as having played a game.

Formations, byes & teams playing twice in any game week

  • You'll need to set your team formation strategically to ensure you have your best Starting 11 on the field. You'll NOT have any Substitutes (and Emergencies) in some positions, depending on the selected formation.
  • Teams might have 'byes' or not play for various reasons in some game weeks - you'll not score points in that particular game week from those players.
  • Conversely, teams might also be scheduled to play twice - you'll receive the points from ALL of their performances in any given game week.

Live/End-of-match and final scores

  • While LIVE and End-of-match scoring updates for your team and your league's opponents and participants will be available during the game week, scores and rankings are usually updated, confirmed and finalised within a few hours of the last game of the game week.
  • In certain circumstances, due to the complexities involved in the large number of statistics that are provided and processed, delays may occur. Please allow up until 3:00pm AEST on the day following the completion of the game week for scores to be processed.
  • Scores are final once completely processed, at which time the competition will be re-opened for team editing for the following game week.

Point Scoring FAQs

Q: Why has my score changed after lockout? A: Any live or end-of-game scoring provided during the game week should be treated as tentative and indicative only. Once the stats are reviewed at the end of the game week, player scores may change slightly when the official results are published.

Q: Why is my score is incorrect? A: It's possible you may have made changes to your line-up. Please refer to the 'How your team scored' column to the right of your team, to view your team's scoring breakdown from the past game week.

Q: If I have two or three emergencies in the same position who all score, which score is added to my team to replace a non-playing player? A: The lowest scoring emergency is always used. Please note, emergencies that score greater than 0 are only used to replace the score of a non-playing player in your team.

Q: What happens if both my Captain and Vice Captain don't play? A: Unfortunately in this instance, you will miss out on double points for a player in your team. Any emergency covering a non-starting Captain/Vice-Captain does not receive double points.

You can sort the players by team, position and scores up to any previously completed game week, from the drop-down menus near the top of the Stats Centre page. This will display players sorted by their Season-to-date scoring. Simply click on the 'game week totals' tab to re-sort the players by their last game week score only, in your selected grouping.

Q. What is the "MVP Value" score and ranking? A. The MVP (or Most Valuable Player) is updated throughout the season and provides a 'pound value per point scored' and ranking based on that value. It's worked out by dividing the player's current value by their current average score per Round - therefore giving you their pound value per point scored each week.

Expand Help/Faq

1. For the purpose of this promotion the following definitions apply:

"Promoter" means Vapormedia Pty Ltd, of 107/425 Docklands Drive, Docklands VIC 3008, in association with Perform Media Australia Pty Ltd (including Sportal.com.au and Goal.com.au), of 120 Harbour Esplanade, Docklands VIC 3008;

"Promotion" means the Goal.com Fantasy EPL or Goal.com.au Fantasy Premier League, conducted during the course of the 38 game weeks of the 2012-13 English Premier League ("EPL") season;

"Round" means a singular game week in the 2012-13 English Premier League season;

"Rounds" means all game weeks in the 2012-13 English Premier League season;

"Promotion Period" means the period commencing at 12pm Australian Eastern Savings Time ("AEST") on 18.07.12 and closing on 11.59pm Australian Eastern Standard Time ("AEST") on 20.05.13;

"Website" means epldreamteam.sportal.com.au, epl.virtualsports.com.au or eplfantasy.goal.com.au.

2. Information on how to enter and prizes form part of these Terms and Conditions. Participation in this Promotion is deemed acceptance of these Terms and Conditions and the Website Terms of Use. In the event of any inconsistency, these Terms and Conditions shall prevail. The laws of Australia apply to this Promotion to the exclusion of any other law. Entrants submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Australia.

3. Entry is open to Australian residents and non-Australian residents, except where prohibited. Notwithstanding the foregoing, only Australian residents aged 18 years and over are eligible to win any prizes, excluding the directors, managers and employees (and their immediate family) of the Promoter and agencies associated with this Promotion. Immediate family means any of the following: spouse, ex-spouse, de-facto spouse, child or step-child (whether natural or by adoption), parent, step-parent, grandparent, step-grandparent, uncle, aunt, niece, nephew, brother, sister, step-brother, step-sister or 1st cousin.

4. To enter, the entrant must firstly register by completing the online registration process at the Website during the Promotion Period. Entrants will be required to (a) choose a nickname/alias to identify their entry; (b) submit the name of their favourite EPL team; and (c) subject to any "Salary Cap Limitations" as detailed on the Website, submit a complete EPL team of 15 players ("Chosen Team") comprising the following positions:

2 x Goalkeepers
5 x Defenders
5 x Midfielders
3 x Forwards

5. Only one registration per an entrant (and per an email address) will be accepted. By registering, the entrant agrees to subscribe (or has already subscribed) to receive periodical results and/or reminder emails about the competition, notification of new competitions, Sportal's "Backpager" and other similar, related newsletters by Sportal.com.au from time to time. The entrant may choose to opt-out of any such newsletters at any time. If invited to enter a particular league, entrants may enter their details to join that league during the registration process. Alternatively they can create up to five private or public leagues and invite others to join. If they do not select a league, entrants will automatically be entered into a public league. Subject to an entrant's eligibility to win a prize, an entrant's chances of winning a prize will not be affected by whether they join a public league or private league. Rankings as displayed on the Website include the rankings of all entrants, and not only the rankings of entrants that are eligible to win a prize, and therefore should not be relied upon as indication of who will a prize.

6. During registration entrants may refer the promotion to their friends via email using the refer-a-friend facility on the Website. If an entrant refers a friend, they warrant that they have obtained their friend's consent to do so prior to sending the email. The entrant indemnifies the Promoter against any claims by any third party for the entrant's failure to do so.

7. Entrants may replace players in their Chosen Team via the "Transfers Page" on the Website, in accordance with any directions. Entrants may make a maximum of 40 player trades per the season, with a maximum of 2 trades in any given Round. Player trades must take place prior to the commencement of a particular Round to be eligible to be selected for that Round, and are subject to any Salary Cap Limitations as detailed on the Website. Players traded during the season do not get their aggregate points added or subtracted to the entrant's total. For sake of clarity, if the player is removed from, or added to the Chosen Team, only the points earned by that player for that entrant, prior to their removal or after their addition from the Chosen Team, in accordance with these Terms and Conditions, count towards the entrant's total.

8. After registration, entrants may enter all remaining Rounds that have not been locked out or completed. Subject to clause 9, to enter a particular Round, the entrant must prior to the lockout period for that Round (as notified on the Website), submit their "Round Team" comprising of 11 "Starting Players" from their Chosen Team in the positions as available at the web site, based on nine selectable team formations.

Entrants will retain the remaining 4 'substitute' players. Where available (based on the selected formation), the remaining Substitutes act as automatic emergencies, and will automatically have their score added (as long as they score greater than 0) to replace a player in the Starting 11 Players on the participant's Chosen Team who doesn't play and receives a score of 0, in their matching position only. If there are 2 or more available substitutes in a particular position, the lowest scoring will be used. If there is no substitute available in a particular position based on the participant's selected formation, no automatic emergency substitution will take place. A maximum of one player will be used as emergency per position. Entrants may select a "Team Captain" who will score double points, and select a "Vice Captain" who will score double points in the event that the Team Captain does not play in the particular Round and receives a score of 0.

9. If, after participating in a Round, an entrant does not amend their Round Team, their Round Team from the previous Round as selected by the entrant will be used, regardless of whether or not those players will be playing in the coming Round.

10. Entrants will score points based upon the performance of their selected players in their Round Team for the particular Round. Points will be awarded (or subtracted) for each performance statistic attributed to that player during the Round as follows:

11. The Promoter's decisions in relation to all aspects of this Promotion is final and no correspondence will entered into, including decisions in relation to the number of points that entrant may have earned.

12. Rankings of entrants from the last Round completed will appear on the Website. Rankings on the Website may not give a true indication of the eventual winner of a prize.

13. The prize selection process for the major prize will take place at 12pm AEST on 21.05.13 at Vapormedia Pty Ltd, at 107/425 Docklands Drive, Docklands VIC 3008. The entrant, from those entrants who are eligible to win a prize in accordance with clause 3, with the highest point score at the conclusion of all Rounds will win the major prize of a $500 Super Voucher. If the entrant is under the age of 18, the prize will be awarded to their legal parent or guardian, at the Promoter's discretion.

If there are more than two entrants with the equal highest number of points for the Major or Round prizes, the winner will be the person who registered on the Website first in time. The winner will be notified by mail, email and phone and their name will be published on the Website on 21.05.13.

14. If a prize is not claimed by 12:00 noon 21.08.13, the entrant who had the second highest score will receive that prize. If a prize remains unclaimed, the draw to award any unclaimed prize will take place at the same time and place as the original draw on 21.08.13. The winner, if any, will be contacted by mail, email and phone and published on the website on 21.08.13.

15. The Promoter reserves the right, at any time, to verify the validity of entries and entrants (including an entrant's identity, age and place of residence) and to disqualify any entrant who submits an entry that is not in accordance with these Terms and Conditions or who in the opinion of the Promoter tampers with the entry process. Failure by the Promoter to enforce any of its rights at any stage does not constitute a waiver of those rights.

16. Incomplete, indecipherable, incorrect or illegible entries will be deemed invalid. Entries containing inappropriate, offensive, derogatory or defamatory content, as determined by the Promoter will deemed invalid and may be removed from display.

17. If there is a dispute as to the identity of an entrant, the Promoter reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to determine the identity of the entrant.

18. If the prize is unavailable, the Promoter, in its discretion, reserves the right to substitute the prize with a prize to the equal value and/or specification.

19. Total prize pool value is a maximum of $500.

20. Prize is not transferable or exchangeable and cannot be taken as cash.

21. Entrants consent to the Promoter using the entrant's name, likeness, image and/or voice in the event they are a winner (including photograph, film and/or recording of the same) in any media for an unlimited period without remuneration for the purpose of promoting this competition (including any outcome), and promoting any services supplied by the Promoter.

22. If this promotion is interfered with in any way or is not capable of being conducted as reasonably anticipated due to any reason beyond the reasonable control of the Promoter, the Promoter reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to the fullest extent permitted by law (a) to disqualify any entrant; or (b) to modify, suspend, terminate or cancel the promotion, as appropriate.

23. Any cost associated with accessing the promotional website is the entrant's responsibility and is dependent on the Internet service provider used.

24. Except for any liability that cannot be excluded by law, the Promoter (including its officers, employees and agents) excludes all liability (including negligence), for any personal injury; or any loss or damage (including loss of opportunity); whether direct, indirect, special or consequential, arising in any way out of the Promotion, including, but not limited to, where arising out of the following: (a) any technical difficulties or equipment malfunction (whether or not under the Promoter's control); (b) any theft, unauthorised access or third party interference; (c) any entry or prize claim that is late, lost, altered, damaged or misdirected (whether or not after their receipt by the Promoter) due to any reason beyond the reasonable control of the Promoter; (d) any variation in prize value to that stated in these Terms and Conditions; (e) any tax liability incurred by a winner or entrant; or (f) the prize.
